Your Session

Scheduling & Availability
{Please note that Nicole is currently on maternity leave.}

Congratulations on your new little miracle! Nicole is available for newborn sessions on weekends only, with some exceptions for weekday work. Nicole schedules only a few sessions each month to ensure that her clients receive true “custom portraiture.” Sessions are limited, and are usually scheduled 1-3 months in advance, but may be booked further out if necessary. Newborn sessions take place in the first 2 weeks after birth, with 5-7 days old being optimal. After 2 weeks, they lose the curled up “newborn” look, are awake more and are prone to baby acne. Their little limbs start to stretch out and they startle easily – that makes it tough to pose the beautiful images that you see throughout her website. Nicole has had success with newborns as old as 3 weeks and will schedule sessions up until then.

Please contact Nicole as soon as you know you’d like to book a newborn session – preferably in the beginning of your last trimester or earlier. She typically books several months in advance, so scheduling as early as possible will help guarantee her availability. Newborn sessions are generally scheduled the weekend after your due date but may be moved as needed, depending on when your baby decides the big day will be!  Your newborn session will be secured with a $150 deposit. The deposit amount will be used toward your future digital image purchase. It is not refundable and is due within 7 days of agreeing upon a session date. If the deposit is not received within 7 days, the date will be opened up for other clients.

Newborn sessions are photographed indoors at Nicole’s Perry Hall home studio. Clients have full access to Nicole’s extensive prop closet at the studio, including full backdrops, multiple flooring options, boxes, baskets, blankets, and of course, all of her wraps and adorable hats.  She is also happy to incorporate any personal blankets, hats, props, etc. that you would like to work into the session, so get creative!  The studio also has ample natural light, guaranteeing the best quality results for your session.

What can you expect?
Prior to the start of each session, Nicole will discuss with you what you would like out of your session.  She’ll ask about color schemes in your home, in addition to where you will be displaying your portraits, so she knows what colors to work with.  She will also ask about preferences regarding props (including those that you bring to the session).  She likes working with multiple props in addition to simple portraits, but if you prefer only simple portraits, she is happy to accommodate that instead.  Each newborn session is different, the baby always runs the show! Even at only a few days old, newborns already have their own personalities, likes and dislikes. Because of that, Nicole makes sure to work with them to achieve the best possible outcome. She only poses babies in positions that are comfortable for them – these poses are different for every baby. Safety is also of utmost importance at every session – Nicole has a lot of experience working with newborns and always practices safe posing techniques. Sessions typically last approximately 4 hours but may require more time depending on the baby. It is difficult to predict how long the session will last, so please try to leave the day open. Nicole usually prefers to works by herself when photographing newborns, so grab your favorite book or take a nap! She’ll grab mom or dad if needed for feedings or if she needs help with something.

How to prepare & other details
Once Nicole has been commissioned for your portrait session, she will send you a .pdf brochure that includes information for your newborn session preparation.
